About My Book
This memoir was conceived shortly after the death of my child. I sought an objective to press forward with my life, as I wandered aimlessly about. I realized the necessity of engaging my mind in a purposeful way. And so, this intimate manuscript was created for my children and grandchildren, to share my reflections of those responses and emotions that had transformed me into the person that I had become. As a self-published author, I hope this will provide a tool for other parents experiencing similar situations.
I have committed my life’s work to children with special needs and their families. After the birth of my son, I recognized the urgency of protecting and nurturing these youngsters who had so much to offer in their own special way. Employed by the Chicago Board of Education as a case manager, my vision has always been fixated on the implementation of effective practices that would facilitate their development into thriving and productive individuals. I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University and a M.Ed. in Special Education from National Louis University.

An Inspirational Book by Eileen Kleeblatt Van
Through my book, What I Did For Love, A Memoir, I share the intimate story of my family, which includes two special needs children. Confronted with devastating adversities on a continual basis, I denied my religious beliefs in an attempt to blame someone or something greater than myself for the turbulence that surrounded me. As I struggled to regain my faith and reconnect with God, I uncovered His ultimate plan to escort me on a journey that I was never in control of.
When I completed this manuscript and acknowledged those parents who continue to struggle with their own challenges, I realized the commonality of our fears and frustrations. With love and understanding, I hope that sharing my story will help them believe that they are never alone.
I am retired, but I continue to collaborate with families who struggle with ongoing issues. I also remain a strong advocate for all people who are confronted with such tribulations. Presently, I reside in a Chicago, IL suburb with my husband, living close to my children and grandchildren.
